How to dress for your first day at your new company?

If you've landed your first job, or if you've just found a new job, you know the importance of making a good impression with your new employer from the start . Don't think that you've done the hardest part by passing your job interview... a neat style is essential in the professional context to keep that job! Mademoiselle Grenade gives you her advice to avoid being judged immediately by your professional outfit .

To get off to a good start in your new business, avoid dressing awkwardness on the first day. A look that is too out of line with company codes, or an outfit that doesn't sound professional enough can cause you to get noticed. To get through the trial period without any problem, and not be identified as the fashionista from the start, Mademoiselle Grenade gives you her advice.

Company dress codes

There is no one-size-fits-all outfit to wear for your first day of work! Depending on the position you hold, whether or not you deal with clients, for example, the ideal outfit will not be the same. If you do not have a required uniform (as is sometimes the case in catering or certain jobs in direct contact with customers), then you will have to find the right clothes to match in your wardrobe . Before the first day, find out your company codes. During your job interview, you probably noticed a few details. Maybe all your colleagues wore suits? Perhaps it was pointed out to you that the flashy colors of the receptionist were not really appreciated by your superior? Adapt to your business environment.

The right attitude to adopt for the first day

  • Wear a classic buttoned blouse (see our selection of blouses ). Opt for a silk, knit or cotton blouse. You can wear a model that has a classic collar, not extravagance. White is often recommended, but you can definitely wear a brighter color as long as the overall cut is elegant. Avoid plunging necklines or asymmetrical cuts when meeting your colleagues for the first time;

  • On the bottom, wear a knee-length skirt . Pencil skirts have simple, traditional cuts. Discreet colors like black, gray or dark brown will allow you to be discreet. Avoid slits that extend above the knee;

  • Pants should not be put aside! On the contrary, black pants with a neat carrot cut will give you style and elegance without going overboard;

  • As for accessories, now is not the time to break out your collection of necklaces and bracelets. Play the simplicity card by wearing, for example, discreet earrings or a small chain. The same goes for makeup.

Your clothing should reflect your state of mind to start your new job. You must be motivated, smiling and outgoing! There's nothing worse than someone who is sullen on their first day. It's the same thing for your clothes. Classic, stylish, a bit of fantasy... You can then, gradually, bring your personality to the office according to usage.
